The Best of Fashion Week - Sept. 2009

Chic in Review from The Moment/NY Times blog here.

Fashion Week Wrap-up from The Fug Girls via NY Magazine blog here.

From WWD.com:

Digital Fashion Recap: Maybe it’s the economy and worries over jobs or just the overall fashion mood, but blog and Twitter postings this season during New York Fashion Week seemed more functional than fun or biting. Editors wrote about everything from the crowds during Fashion’s Night Out to the unexpected VIPs in the front row (Mickey Rourke at Max Azria?). The short, 140-character Twitter limit gave people less room for flowery comments, but encouraged some pity, fly-on-the-wall quotes. Below, WWD polled the best tweets and blog posts during the shows:

On pre-fashion week activities at Fashion’s Night Out:

“Ps: I thought FNO was a democratic event. Why are there so many velvet ropes and clipboards? I gue$$ the 80s really are back.” — Joe Zee, Sept. 10

“RL [Ralph Lauren] mansion: Anna [Wintour] sneaks up on a woman debating a FNO tee and says into her ear, ‘It’s for a good cause, you should buy it.’ — New York Magazine’s Cutblog, Sept. 10

On front-row antics:

“Lindsay Lohan sitting front row at G-Star? Predictable. A bevy of Real Housewives at Jill Stuart? Ogle-able, but not groundbreaking. Ron Jeremy at Tadashi Shoji? Now that’s the kind of…front-row spotting that makes fashion week worth blogging about…” — Glamour’s Tracey Lomrantz, Sept. 17

“Kathy Griffin to a reporter front row at Isaac: ‘This spring, it’s about sheer…Show the nipple.’ Oh my!” — Glamour’s Cindi Leive, Sept. 17

On party reporting:

“Matt Dillon hanging outside the Standard Grill. Drug dealer walks by muttering ‘Ecstasy, coke.’ When will we be done with the 80s?” — Joe Zee, Sept. 11

“Radical chic: everyone is smoking near the gas pumps!!” — New York Times’ The Moment, from the Alexander Wang/Katie Grand after party in Chelsea, Sept. 12

On opinions:

“Protestor chanting, ‘How many lamb fetuses did you sell? Carolina [Herrera] what the hell?’ Huh? Also: Carolina didn’t have fur in show.” — New York Magazine’s Cutblog, Sept. 14

“We asked Anna what she thinks about the no-pants trend. Her response: ‘I will never answer that question.’” — New York Magazine’s Cutblog, Sept. 12

On designers:

“Oh, Tory Burch. You might as well go ahead and take my wallet now.” — Glamour’s Susan Cernek, Sept. 16

“Is it just me, or is everything on the great American runway shrinking? The skirts are smaller. The fabrics look, um, cheaper. And the shows seem to be shorter, which is often a blessing.” — The New York Times’ Cathy Horyn, Sept. 14

“Welcome back Peter Som. This collection is so g.d. beautiful. Where is that trust fund when I really need it?” — Abby Gardner, Fashionista, Sept. 17
