Another great exhibit! From Fashion Week Daily:
The upcoming exhibition at the Museum at FIT entitled Arbiters of Style: Women at the Forefront of Fashion features a chronological survey of those female influencers who shaped fashion's course over the past 250 years. Co-curated by Colleen Hill and Molly Sorkin, it will feature approximately 70 looks, including clothing and accessories worn by department store executives, influential clients, editors, models and muses.
Highlights include a gown designed by leading Parisian couturiere Jeanne Paquin and a suit designed by English designer Lucy, Lady Duff Gordon. The dominance of Coco Chanel, Jeanne Lanvin and Elsa Schiaparelli between the two world wars will be highlighted, as will pieces from Claire McCardell, retail pioneer Hattie Carnegie and fashion executive Rose Marie Bravo. Donations from style influencers like Diana Vreeland, Isabel Eberstadt and Lauren Bacall showcase their role in fashion, while creations from the likes of Vivienne Westwood convey a sense of perpetual dedication to the craft. The exhibit will run from May 21st through November 8th, 2008.
