Home Bodies: The Allure of the Staycation

Vogue.com has a great feature on "Staycations" - featured are Brooklyn, Chicago, Dallas, Florence, Alabama, Miami, Nashville, Portland, Maine, and San Francisco - personally, since 9/11, I haven't been a big fan of flying. I used to fly all the time but since then I've kept it to a bare minimum - maybe once every couple of years. So therefore, by default, I became a big fan of Staycations. I'm glad I am so hip and didn't even know it! And with gas prices being so high and the dollar being so crappy overseas I think a lot more people will be staying home for their vacations this year. My trip to Paris was canceled in May and now I have a nice amount of vacation time on my hands which I have been using here and there. I also find that I get a lot done when I am on a Staycation. I always have a big pile of books saved up that I meant to get to and staying home means reading practically all of them. I also am fortunate to live across the street, literally, from the Atlantic Ocean (see photo above taken by me -- of my beach) so why go away in the summer?

I have to say I really agree with this, the best part of an actual vacation is coming home, having a staycation gives you that great feeling the whole time.

So fun! What beach are you on? I have a cabana at a club on Atlantic Beach.. it's so close to the city, I love it.. It's great for when you don't want to schlep out to the hamps!
